Our Environments

An Encouraging & Unique Environment

Jubilee Gems is set within a beautiful rural area of West Berkshire in close proximity to Basingstoke, Reading and Newbury.

We provide enabling environments - both indoors and outdoors - which encourage child-led learning focused on all the senses. The environment is our ‘third teacher’ and can do much to enhance children’s learning.

Proactive Learning

Our indoor spaces are attractive, homely and engaging and designed for each age group. Our outdoor learning environments at Jubilee Gems are designed, resourced and developed to offer children a rich variety of experiences to discover and explore each day - from our mud kitchen and dedicated play equipment to our open spaces for children to explore and discover.

We are very lucky to have access to beautiful, private woodland with a shallow stream complete with bridge running through. There are squeals of delight from children who are able to hone those gross motor skills as they jump from the bridge into the water. The children enjoy getting a little muddy and parents love this - not only have children spent the day connecting with nature but often it brings back happy memories of their own childhoods.

Our-Indoor-Spaces

Our Indoor Spaces

We provide safe, nurturing and sensory-rich environments for children. Just as a you might at home, we support learning through play by dividing our rooms into different areas so that children are able to follow their own interests.

Our areas are bright and welcoming and there is space for the very youngest to safely explore, whilst retaining the homely intimacy of a room essential for babies. As children progress there are spaces for sand, water and messy play, mark making, role play, invention and quiet areas to take a moment and enjoy a story. One common theme which connects all our indoor space is the freedom and flexibility our team have to alter the environment according to the needs of the children.

Our-Gardens-Mud-Kitchen

Our Gardens & Mud Kitchen

Each area of the Nursery has its own dedicated outdoor play area, developed to suit the ages and abilities of the children. We have a large field which contains a variety of play equipment and the space to run and play freely.

We love mud at Jubilee! It’s inclusive of all and allows children to play at their own developmental level. You probably have nostalgic memories of making potions, flower perfume and the perfect mud pie – growth of imagination and creativity are endless. We have created a magical mud kitchen for our children to play in. It’s what all the best inventors and creatives do! Mud is an excellent medium for learning. The rich, engaging sensory play children partake in while playing with mud, allows them to express their creativity without fear of making mistakes. It also enhances enhances fine motor skills. Children are able topractise social skills such as co-operation, negotiation, communication and sharing as they work together.

Our-Woodlands

Our Woodland

Being outdoors inspires effective learning and what better place to do so than in our enchanting woodland? Imaginations are fuelled as children explore in a safe environment, creating a whole array of engaging scenarios. Children develop their motor skills through a broad range of movements and learn how to take calculated risks in the natural environment. It’s great for encouraging teamwork, negotiation skills, learning about cause and effect and, of course, developing language and communication.

Connected to an ever-changing environment - brimming with noises, textures and smells - children learn to embrace and understand each season. Every day is filled with outdoor adventure - from den building to splashing in the stream, Forest Schools or simply enjoying a ‘sound' walk through the woods.

Our-Farm

Our Farm

Our farm is an educational playground for young minds. Children can meet a range of animals, from the ducks and chickens, to cattle and our friendly goats. There are sensory opportunities galore - from the textures of the animal fur or hay, the colours of the tractors, wet grass or the feel of the vegetables. Our farm offers a wide variety of contrasting tactile experiences alongside story opportunities created by practitioners and children alike. It also provides a clearer understanding of where food comes from.
