Jubilee collects more than 500 bras for charity

Staff, parents and residents from the local Berkshire community have binned more than 500 bras for a breast cancer charity.

In October, Jubilee Gems installed a bra bank outside its front entrance and encouraged ladies to bin their bras.

Within a matter of weeks, hundreds of bras were donated.

The bras have since been donated to the charity Against Breast Cancer. Its bra recycling scheme takes unwanted or unloved bras and raises vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research. The same bras also help to support small businesses in Africa.

Together with the charity’s recycling partners, its textile recovery project prevents these bras going into landfill before giving them a new lease of life in developing countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally.

Well done and a huge thank you to everyone who helped support this fantastic event at Jubilee!
